Fastenal Company, together with its subsidiaries, engages in the wholesale distribution of industrial and construction supplies in the United States, Canada, and internationally. It offers fasteners, and other industrial and construction supplies under the Fastenal name. The company's fastener products include threaded fasteners, such as bolts, nuts, screws, studs, and related washers, which are used in manufactured products and construction projects, as well as in the maintenance and repair of machines. It also offers miscellaneous supplies and hardware, including various pins and machinery keys, concrete anchors, metal framing systems, wire ropes, strut products, rivets, and related accessories. The company serves the manufacturing market comprising original equipment manufacturers; maintenance, repair, and operations; and non-residential construction market, which include general, electrical, plumbing, sheet metal, and road contractors. It also serves farmers, truckers, railroads, mining companies, schools, and retail trades; and oil exploration, production, and refinement companies, as well as federal, state, and local governmental entities. As of December 31, 2017, the company distributed its products through a network of 2,383 company owned stores. Fastenal Company was founded in 1967 and is headquartered in Winona, Minnesota.
This series focuses on selecting companies that meet the definition
of small and mid sized companies as defined by BetterInvesting.
A small or mid cap stock is presented and discussed, then evaluated objectively by a strict
set of criteria. Attendees provide input to form a consensus judgment as
we complete the SSG together. Directors from the chapter will work through the
process of finding, evaluating, and selecting small companies.
Companies presented are placed in a virtual portfolio on Manifest
Investing, with each new addition beginning with $1,000. The link to

Stock Selection Guide - Learning the Basics

Prerequisite: Introduction to Investment Basics or
entry level class, covering the basics of the
Better Investing Stock Selection Guide (SSG). The class begins with a
review of the BetterInvesting principles, key financial concepts and
Line data, materials presented in the Introduction to Investment
class. You learn what to look for in a stock to purchase and how the SSG
helps you identify potential investments. The tutorial on the SSG
company to demonstrate how to fill out each section of the SSG, and
perform the calculations used in each section.
The class consists of morning and afternoon
sessions, with a 45 minute lunch break. Lunch is on your own. You may
bring your own lunch or purchase a lunch at a nearby restaurant. The

Learn to recognize high-quality growth stocks using the Stock
Determining a Fair Price
Continue the examination of the Stock Selection Guide to determine
the potential return of a stock.
Estimating Future Growth
This session provides guidance on how to make reasonable,
conservative projections of future sales and earnings growth rates.
Estimating Future P/Es
This session provides guidelines to help you make reasonable
projections for future high and low P/Es and determine if the stock is a
buy, sell, or hold.

Classes and events are booked

Registration for all classes or events must be received prior to the event.
We reserve the right to cancel classes when we have fewer than four
students. If you are registered and a class is cancelled, you will be notified by e-mail and given the option
of applying the payment to future classes or events or having your money
refunded. You do not have to be a Better Investing member to attend our
classes or other events. All events, even those with no charge, require
submission of a registration form. All handouts for classes will be
made available in PDF format prior to the class.

Congratulations! You have a deferred retirement account! Now you
need to select which are the best choices of mutual funds or
ETF's to put your money into. This class is for you.
class will help you make informed choices about fund selections,
based on your objectives and risk tolerance. We will look at how
to screen for funds, what criteria to enter into a screener, and
how to evaluate the results. Using Morningstar data sheets, we
will look at metrics on individual funds, and how to get the
most from the information provided. We will look at the

Introduction to Investing

Class is a combination of three presentations. The first, "Why Invest in Stocks." will demonstrate why investing in stocks provides the best potential reward over time as shown by historical data.
"Understanding the Jargon" explains basic financial terms that are critical for the investor to understand in order to choose wisely and manage risk.
The third takes you on a guided tour of the Value Line data sheet. Learn how to use it as a basic research source to find fundamental information on a company.
